APG|SGA is strengthening its digital presence in the towns of Olten and Solothurn with the launch of a total of 32 screens. At the heart of the projects, carried out in collaboration with the two local authorities, was the conversion of a total of ten analogue Cityplan displays to digital ones. Six are located in Olten and four in Solothurn. Both towns can also use one-third of the airtime on the commercially available screens, which are situated on public land, for their own content such as cultural events, political information and official announcements. A special feature is an ‘emergency function’: In the event of exceptional circumstances, the authorities can immediately override all screens – both the commercial ones and the Cityplan displays – to warn or inform the public at an early stage (e.g. in the event of floods, major fires or kidnappings). To this end, APG|SGA provides its own CMS, which is used by the two cities for broadcast planning.
All the advertising spaces in Olten and Solothurn are situated in prime locations. In the town of Olten, 16 City ePanels are now available to advertisers. In Solothurn, there are six. At the request of the city of Olten, all ePanels have been manufactured in a special colour that blends in particularly well with the surroundings.
The roll-out of the new digital installations is a prime example of how the needs of a city and its residents can be met whilst incorporating commercial content.
