The 21st edition of the ‘APG|SGA Sustainability Report’ provides even more detailed information than before on the status of the measures implemented, as well as on the objectives and initiatives within the framework of the holistic corporate social responsibility strategy. The report represents a milestone in several respects. It explains how the company intends to meet the ever-increasing demands for sustainable business practices and transparency in the future, and underlines APG|SGA’s leading role.
With reference to the standards of the Global Reporting Initiative (GRI) and the European Sustainability Reporting Standard (ESRS), the ‘APG|SGA Sustainability Report 2023’ has been expanded and redesigned to provide even greater transparency. As a result, the 21st report is more comprehensive and provides an even deeper insight into APG|SGA’s corporate social responsibility management. Furthermore, the scope of the life cycle assessment has been expanded in line with the requirements of the Science Based Targets initiative (SBTi). This means that all group companies under the full operational control of APG|SGA, as well as upstream processes, are taken into account in their entirety.
Before new, ambitious targets were set for the entire company on the basis of the group-wide greenhouse gas inventory, a review was carried out of the short-term, science-based greenhouse gas emission reduction target set in 2017. APG|SGA has comfortably achieved the 2023 interim target. Last year, optimisations to heating systems and refurbishment measures in particular contributed to this, improving the energy efficiency of buildings and leading to a 21 per cent reduction in heating energy consumption compared with 2022.
The fact that APG|SGA has once again been awarded an A- rating in the ‘CDP Climate Change Score 2023’ underlines its leading role in reporting on climate protection. This assessment was confirmed by APG|SGA’s inclusion on the ‘Europe’s Climate Leaders’ list for 2023 and 2024, compiled by the Financial Times in collaboration with Statista. CEO Markus Ehrle: “I am delighted that we have clearly achieved our interim climate target and have been able to stay on track towards the 1.5-degree target. The recognition of our achievements by CDP and the Financial Times is a clear endorsement of our efforts. With the integration of our Serbian subsidiary Alma Quattro into our active environmental management system, we face an exciting challenge. In addition to climate protection, we are also prioritising social and cultural aspects as part of our holistic CSR strategy.”
Social responsibility as an indispensable cornerstone
In 2023, APG|SGA joined the UN Global Compact’s global network and was certified as a ‘Great Place to Work’ thanks to the positive results of its employee survey. APG|SGA built on its strong performance in the pay equality review by securing the ‘Fair-ON-Pay Advanced’ certificate. The company supports diversity and promotes gender balance. Compared with the previous year, the proportion of women in management positions has increased. Social and cultural partnerships are being further nurtured and expanded. Through billboard sponsorship, APG|SGA supports various organisations in the fields of culture, sport and the non-profit sector to the tune of tens of millions, and is a co-sponsor of the ‘Swiss Out of Home Awards’ as well as other creative competitions in the ‘Out of Home Media’ category.
