APG|SGA has successfully completed the validation of its group-wide emissions reduction targets by the Science Based Targets Initiative (SBTi). APG|SGA’s ambitious short- and long-term targets now comply with the SBTi Net-Zero Standard for Scope 1, 2 and 3 targets and reaffirm the company’s commitment to climate protection.
APG|SGA had already published its first emissions reduction targets back in 2018. These set science-based targets for direct emissions (Scope 1) and emissions from purchased energy (Scope 2) for its operations in Switzerland. In 2024, these original targets were recalculated on the basis of the group-wide emissions from 2023 and expanded to include indirect Scope 3 emissions. By submitting these targets to the SBTi and following the successful validation of these new targets, APG|SGA has committed to achieving net-zero emissions across its entire value chain by 2045. This underlines the outdoor advertising company’s ambitious commitment to a low-carbon future.
Markus Ehrle, CEO of APG|SGA, is delighted and says: “The validation of our climate targets in accordance with the SBTi Net-Zero Standard is another milestone in our consistent commitment to sustainability. We are making a binding commitment to significantly reduce our greenhouse gas emissions across the entire Group by 2045 and have planned a wide range of measures to help us stay on track with our intended reduction pathway.”
The SBTi Net-Zero Standard is the world’s leading framework for setting science-based net-zero targets. SBTi provides companies with standards, guidelines and tools for setting emissions reduction targets. Validation by the SBTi confirms APG|SGA’s science-based net-zero approach, which is in line with the Paris Agreement.
The SBTi has validated the following targets set by APG|SGA:
Short-term targets up to 2030
An 85 per cent reduction in absolute Scope 1 and 2 greenhouse gas emissions by the 2030 financial year, using 2023 as the base year.
Increase the annual purchase of renewable electricity from 70 per cent to 100 per cent by 2025.
A 45 per cent reduction in absolute Scope 3 greenhouse gas emissions by the 2030 financial year, using 2023 as the base year.
Long-term net-zero targets by 2045
A 95 per cent reduction in absolute Scope 1 and 2 greenhouse gas emissions by the 2035 financial year, using 2023 as the base year.
A 90 per cent reduction in absolute Scope 3 greenhouse gas emissions by the 2045 financial year, using 2023 as the base year.
APG|SGA is committed to achieving net-zero greenhouse gas emissions across its entire value chain by 2045.
