Many good reasons to celebrate – the anniversary edition
125 years of APG|SGA and 150 years of the Museum für Gestaltung Zürich, two institutions with a long history: to mark their double anniversary, they are jointly presenting a virtual exhibition with a selection of consumption posters from the past and present. Whether charming, provocative, or playful – subjects are shown that deal with the topic of "anniversary" in quite diverse ways – sometimes loud, sometimes subtle, but always visually strong. Whether it is 550 years of Schabziger, or 100 years of Swiss advertising films, products and brands also like to celebrate their birthdays – and posters are often an invitation to do so. Have fun discovering and joining in the celebrations!

Dafi Kühne, 550 Jahre Glarner Schabziger, 2013
"I particularly like Dafi Kühne's poster for 550 years of Glarner Schabziger from 2013, because it works on several levels. At a cursory glance, the poster has the grace of a free artistic work, only at second glance the actual advertising message can be recognized: a Glarner Zigerstöckli, from which a firework of flavors and aromas unfolds like a party popper, represented in the overlapping color surfaces in different nuances. Red flames and sparks flash in between, which could stand for the notorious spiciness of the horn clover contained in the cheese. The graphic artist, typographer, and poster designer Kühne works in his own letterpress studio in Näfels and combines modern graphic design with traditional craftsmanship."

Poster collection, Museum für Gestaltung Zürich
The poster collection at the Museum für Gestaltung Zürich is one of the most comprehensive and important archives of its kind in the world. It contains around 350,000 objects, with about 150,000 catalogued, all documenting the national and international history of the poster from its origins in the mid-19th century to the present day. The collection includes political, cultural and commercial posters. Their diversity of historical, thematic and geographic subjects results in both a panorama of poster art and a glimpse into a visual archive of day-to-day life. Some of the posters are available to view in the museum’s online database: www.emuseum.ch. This database is constantly being expanded.
