Swiss Poster Award 2021 shortlist

Spike in submissions with 33 nominated campaigns shortlisted

January 26, 2022

The Swiss Poster Award is the largest creative competition in commercial communication for analogue, digital and innovative Out of Home Media in Switzerland. It honours design and creative work and underscores the strength and importance of the ‘poster’ medium in comparison with other media. Despite the ongoing COVID restrictions, 2021 was a good year for the award: the jury nominated 33 outstanding campaigns from around 220 submissions. Winners in the award’s six categories will be announced in early March 2022.

The independent jury of specialists, consisting of 18 figures from advertising, culture and design headed by chairman Christian Brändle (director of the Museum für Gestaltung Zürich), evaluated more than 220 competition entries. ‘We received around 70 more submissions than last year, which is a great development. A total of 33 campaigns made it to the coveted Swiss Poster Award 2021 shortlist. The jury was impressed by their originality, design and how they implemented their advertising messages,’ explains Christian Brändle.

A striking feature of the 2021 display year was the expressive and linguistic power of the campaigns, which made observers look – and think. An increasing number of advertisements were executed digitally, making the campaigns more dynamic. And the ‘Out of Home Innovations’ category proved once more that there are no limits to what Out of Home Media can do. The shortlist illustrates the wide range of clients and application areas covered by Out of Home Media. A few examples of this diversity include public transport operator Verkehrsbetriebe Zürich (VBZ) with its campaign ‘Werbelinie’, or ‘Advertising route’, which addressed the gradual reopening following lockdown, as well as the polarising taste tests for the Glarner Schabziger cheese from GESKA AG. Other notable examples include the cultural poster for the cancelled Jazz Festival Willisau, the suicide prevention campaign ‘We hear you call’ from HUG (Geneva University Hospitals) and the striking spring campaign from accident insurance firm Suva Lucerne entitled ‘Zecken-Menü’, or ‘Menu for ticks’.

Announcement of winners
Everyone wants to know who will win in the individual categories and the main award, the ‘Poster of the Year 2021’. The winners will be announced in early March. Sadly, they will only be able to celebrate with a select few again this year as the traditional APG|SGA Poster Night is cancelled for 2022 due to the pandemic.
